Our Guide to Hand Brewed Coffee

Brewing coffee by hand is a great way to get the most out of your coffee beans, eliminating the tech, reducing waste, and producing different flavours.

We use two hand brewing methods in store, the AeroPress and V60 Pour Over. Each gives a subtle difference to the taste of our single origin coffee beans.

Hand Brewing Method 1: The AeroPress

We love the AeroPress, a great innovative coffee maker which is easy to use (you can even use it on the go) while producing a consistent, flavourful cup of coffee every time.

It consists of a cylindrical chamber, and a plunger with an airtight silicone seal, creating a syringe-like effect. Ground coffee beans and water are steeped inside the chamber, and when the plunger is pressed, the coffee is filtered through a filter into your cup.

We like this method for giving us a cup of coffee with a kick of full bodied flavour.

Hand Brewing Method 2: The V-60 pour over

More pleasing to the eye (it looks like a dainty teacup), the V stands for the cone-shaped filters, and the 60 represents the sloping 60 degree angle of the dripper’s sides.

You pour your hot water over the ground coffee sitting in the filter. Gravity pulls the water through the filter to drip perfect coffee into your cup.

This method delivers a lighter, more delicate cup of coffee with clear flavours and aromas. Coffee lovers will notice each subtle note of the coffee from a cleaner finish.
